The Pet Nanny

My name is Jana Shivers and I am the owner and operator of The Pet Nanny. My love for animals began as a small child- as a matter of fact, my first word was "dog!" That love continued into my teen years when I obtained my first job working as a vet tech. After gaining experience in the medical field of animal care, I decided to switch it up and take a job as a kennel tech at a doggie day care. There is no better way to obtain knowledge about canine behavior than being responsible for over 70 dogs interacting with each other under one roof!  By this point, I was already the go-to-girl for friends and family who needed someone to take care of their pets/homes when they traveled...so it made sense to say yes when I was approached about pet sitting professionally. I have been pet sitting full-time for 12 years now and have earned my Bachelor's in Business Management from Augusta State University. I officially put my degree to good use by opening The Pet Nanny in 2016 and becoming a licensed, bonded and insured small business owner! My love for animals combined with the knowledge and experience I have acquired over the years make my job as The Pet Nanny rewarding for me and worry-free for you.

My Children

Lucy is a 15 year old bulldog/bird dog mix. I have had her since the day she was born and she is my soul mate. She is bossy, stubborn, silly, smart and sweet. She loves to show off her tricks: high 5, high 10, sit pretty, bang bang, and cover your eyes are some of her favorites :)

Update: Lucy Feb 24, 2006- Aug 31, 2021.

Ethel is a "foster failure." You may recognize her from Facebook, as she was originally posted on the CSRA Humane Society's Facebook page in need of immediate help. I followed the post for a day and when I realized no one had gotten her by that evening, I picked her up. She was diagnosed with several issues. She had demodectic and sarcoptic mange, ring worm, a staph infection and an entropion. After nursing her through all of that, I couldn't imagine putting her up for adoption. I realized she had been home all along. Now, five years later, she is doing great and loves her life!

Kit is approximately 11 years old and had a rough life before I found him. I first met him when my friend bought a house that had been empty for 2 years. Kit was always on the front porch of this house. I noticed he was fixed, declawed and that his jaw/mouth looked deformed on one side. Neighborhood kids informed me that his previous owners moved away and left him and that a dog had attacked him a year prior, Since he didn't have any owners, no one was concerned about treating his injuries. The result was a broken jaw that healed improperly and a large piece of his lip missing. He has been with me for 4 years now and has completely adapted to being a spoiled, inside cat. Safe, happy, healthy and loved!

Update: I lost Kit suddenly and unexpectedly in September 2019 due to a splenic rupture.  I don't have the heart to take his info down because he will always be my boy ❤
